Jamie’s Italian in Manchester

To be in any of the Jamie’s Italian spots was pretty exciting for me. I had an unplanned business trip to Manchester and decided to take an advantage of it. And to be honest, I couldn’t wait to go and visit the place.

The entrance of the restaurant was very welcoming and was promising a great dinner. And it didn’t let us down. The building was meant to be a bank for a long time, but recently became one of Jamie’s Italian restaurants. The bank vault was kept and nowadays is a room which could be rented for special events.

The enormous space wasn’t exactly how I was imagining Jamie’s Italian though. I was thinking of a more cozy place than a bank.

But the food was a great example of Jamie Oliver’s passion for the Italian cuisine and of his whole philosophy for food.

The starters we took were Creamy Burrata cheese with cherry tomatoes and basil and Spicy Meatballs with tomato and basil sauce. Both of them a good example of the simple and non-pretentious Italian food.

The main dishes we took were Slow cooked lamb in Tuscan style and Swardfish steak with smashed avocado and cherry tomatoes salad. The taste was fantastic. The lamb was so lean that it was melting in the mouth and was seasoned great – as you really are in Tuscany and are able to try a mixture of all its tastes. The fish was light and fresh. The food was combined with craft beers and refreshing Pinot Grigio.

Then it was time for dessert – Lemon Cheesecake and Strawberry Semifreddo. So tasty, but so sweet. No matter how much a love sweets, I couldn’t finish my dessert. But the taste of it was the great end of a great dinner.

Going to the UK and to one of the Jamie’s Italian restaurants made me read more about the crisis of this chain earlier this year. The Italian restaurants of Jamie were almost let to bankruptcy and Jamie Oliver had to invest a lot of his savings to save it. And I couldn’t stop wondering why… Jamie Oliver for me is a synonym of affordable (both economically and in terms of time) way of cooking. He encourages people to go back to the homemade food and shows them how easy and cozy it is to eat home. May be here is the biggest mismatch of the ideas and the philosophy – eating home or going to one of Jamie’s restaurants? Jamie Oliver is already a very strong brand in the modern culinary industry but in my mind it is always meant for cooking at home and making people spend time and share food together and enjoy the coziness of their own homes.

I would go again there, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the experience and the food and I would like to try more of what’s Jamie’s choice to include in his menu. But I would definitely prefer to watch his TV shows, to read his books, to try his recipes at home.

Summer farfalle with mussels and cherry tomatoes

Hi, everyone 🙂

Our new summer recipe is Summer farfalle with mussels and cherry tomatoes 🙂

Ingredients for 2 portions:

200 g farfalle
100 g cherry tomatoes (halved)
100 g mussels (shelled)
1/4 red onion
2 garlic gloves
1 anchovy fillet
Parsley
Lovage
Salt
Pepper
Olive oil

How to prepare it?

Boil the pasta according to the instructions. Mince the onion and the garlic and fry them till gold together with the anchovy. Add the cherry tomatoes and the mussels and season. Add 2-3 table spoones from the water the pasta was boiling in. Mix the pasta and the sause and serve. That’s it. I hope you gonna like this light yummy summer pasta 🙂

Нашата нова лятна рецепта е Летни Фарфале с миди и чери доматки 🙂

Продукти за 2 порции:

200г макарони Фарфале
100г чери доматки (разполовени)
100г миди (без черупките)
1/4 червен лук
2 скилитки чесън
1 филе аншоа
Магданоз
Девесил
Сол
Пипер
Зехтин

Начин на приготвяне:

Сварете макароните според инструкциите. Нарежете на ситно лука и чесъна и ги запържете до златисто заедно с аншоата. Добавете чери доматките и мидите и овкусете. Добавете 2-3 супени лъжици от водата, в която е сварена пастата. Смесете пастата и соса и сервирайте. Това е. Надявам се, че ще харесате тази лека вкусна лятна паста 🙂

Stuffed zucchini flowers

Hi, everyone 🙂

Let’s celebrate this lovely Sunday with a delicate Italian summer recipe – Stuffed zucchini flowers 🙂

Ingredients for 2 portions:

6 pcs zucchini flowers
1 tomato (peeled and without the seeds and the inside part)
2 garlic gloves (smashed)
100 g feta cheese
4-5 basil leaves
Salt
Pepper
Olive oil
Flour
1 egg
30 ml beer
Sunflower oil

How to prepare it?

Clean the flowers and wash them very carefully. Dice the tomatoes and mix them with the smashed garlic gloves and the basil. Season with salt, pepper and olive oil. Fill each flower with the cheese mixture. Prepare the frying mixture with the flour, the beaten egg and the beer and season with salt and pepper. Put each flower into the frying mixture and fry them on each side till gold in the sunflower oil. That’s it. I hope you gonna like this lovely Italian summer taste 🙂

Нека отпразнуваме тази страхотна Неделя с една деликатна италианска лятна рецепта – Пълнени цветове от тиквички 🙂

Продукти за 2 порции:

6бр цветове от тиквички
1 домат (обелен и без семките и вътрешността, а само месестата част)
2 скилитки чесън (смачкани)
100г сирене
4-5 листа от босилек
Сол
Пипер
Зехтин
Брашно
1 яйце
30мл бира
Слънчогледово олио

Начин на приготвяне:

Почистете добре цветовете и ги измийте внимателно. Нарежете на ситно домата и го смесете с чесъна и босилека. Овкусете със сол, пипер и зехтин. Напълнете всеки цвят с тази смес. Пригответе панировката с брашно, разбитото яйце, бирата и овкусете със сол и пипер. Оваляйте всеки цвят в сместа и пържете от всяка страна до златисто в слънчогледовото олио. Това е. Надявам се, че ще ви хареса този невероятен италиански летен вкус 🙂

Bruschetta with olive paste and tomatoes

Hi, everyone 🙂

Our second idea for a healthy sandwich is Bruschetta with olive paste and tomatoes 🙂

Ingredients:

Crispy bread (sliced)
Tomatoes (sliced)
Mozzarella (sliced)
Olive paste
Salt
Olive oil

How to prepare it?

Spread the olive paste over the bread. Then arrange the mozzarella and the tomatoes. Season with salt and add a little olive oil. That’s it 🙂 These bruschette are perfect for breakfast, for brunch, even for light dinner. I hope you gonna like them 🙂

Втората ни идея за здравословни сандвичи тази седмица е Брускети с маслинова паста и домати 🙂

Продукти:

Хрупкав хляб (нарязан)
Домати (нарязани)
Моцарела (нарязана)
Маслинова паста
Сол
Зехтин

Начин на приготвяне:

Намажете филийките хляб с маслиновата паста. След това аранжирайте отгоре моцарелата и доматите. Овкусете със сол и поръсете с малко зехтин. Това е 🙂 Тези брускети са идеални за закуска, за ранен обяд, дори и за лека вечеря. Надявам се, че ще ви харесат 🙂

Spaghetti with broccoli and walnuts

Hi, everyone 🙂

What to cook on this suny and lazy Sunday? Why not a light and healthy pasta – Spaghetti with broccoli and walnuts 🙂

Ingredients for 2 portions:

180 g spaghetti
400 g brocoli (fresh and cut into florets)
50 g walnuts (ground)
30-40 g bread-crumbs
2 anchovy fillets
2 garlic gloves
1 red hot pepper
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper

How to prepare it?

First, boil the broccoli till soft. Take them out of the hot water. Then boil the pasta according to the instructions (you can use the water from the broccoli). Bake for few minutes the walnuts and the bread-crumbs in an empty pan (till they become gold). After that take a pan, put in olive oil, the anchovy fillets, the garlic and the hot pepper (cut into small pieces) and fry them till the anchovy gets melted. Then add the brocoli, season with salt and pepper and cook for few minutes. Add the pasta too, cook for another 1-2 minutes and the dish is ready 🙂 Serve with the walnuts and the bread-crumbs on the top. Enjoy it and happy Sunday, everyone 🙂

Какво да приготвим в тази слънчева и мързелива неделя? Защо не лека и здравословна паста – Спагети с броколи и орехи 🙂

Продукти за 2 порции:

180г спагети
400г броколи (пресни и нарязани на зветчета)
50г орехи (смлени)
30-40г галета
2 филета аншоа
2 скилитки чесън
1 червена люта чушка
Зехтин
Сол
Пипер

Начин на приготвяне:

Първо, сварете броколито (до омекване). Извадете го от врялата вода. След това сварете пастата според инструкциите (можете да използвате водата от броколито). Изпечете за няколко минути орехите и галетата в сух тиган (до златно). След това вземете тиган, сипете вътре зехтин, добавете аншоата, чесъна и лютата чушка (нарязани на ситно) и пържете докато аншоата не се разтопи. Добавете броколито, овкусете със сол и пипер и гответе няколко минути. Добавете пастата и гответе още минута-две. Яденето е готово 🙂 Поръсете с орехите и галетата и сервирайте. Наслаждавайте се на ястието и приятна неделя вечер 🙂
